Meeting Minutes
April 20, 2006 Executive
Committee Meeting
Present: Dr. Carl Kalbhen, Dr. Gretchen Conroy, Dr.
Steven Zangan, Dr. John Hibbeln, Dr. Margaret Stull, Dr. Ellen Mendelson,
Dr. Edward Michals, Dr. Thomas Anderson, Dr. Leonard Bok, Dr. Gary Dillehay,
Dr. Edward Melian, Dr. Kate Feinstein, Dr. Ruth Ramsey, Dr. Aruna Vade
and Mr. Merle Hedland.
The meeting was called to order at 4:20 PM at The 500 Club of Rush University
Medical Center.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
The minutes from the March 17, 2006 meeting were approved.
RESIDENT AND FELLOW SECTION REPORT:
Dr. Conroy stated that Dr. G. Scott Stacey from the University of Chicago
will be showing musculoskeletal board review cases at tonight’s
Resident Section Breakout Session. Immediately following this session,
the elections for the 2006-07 Resident and Fellow Section Officers
will be held.
PRESIDENT’S REPORT:
Dr. Kalbhen gave the report in Dr. Dachman’s absence. Dr.
Gregory Moss will be receiving the Society’s highest honor, the
Distinguished Service Award, at tonight’s meeting. The
elections for the 2006-07 Officers and Trustees will also be held tonight,
the Nominating Committee’s recommended slate of officers being
as follows: President, Dr. Carl Kalbhen;
Program Committee Chair and President-Elect, Dr. Jay
Korach; Secretary/Treasurer and Vice President, Dr. John
Hibbeln; 4th Year Trustees, Drs. Ellen
Mendelson and Edward Michals; 3rd Year Trustee, Dr. Davide
Bova; 2nd Year Trustee, Dr. Leonard Bok; and 1st Year
Trustees, Drs. William Small, Jr. and Jennifer Lim-Dunham.
SECRETARY/TREASURER’S REPORT:
Dr. Kalbhen gave the Financial Report for March, 2006; revenue and expense
items were as expected, with the Society’s finances remaining
strong. Because of the continued strength of the Society’s assets,
it was decided not to change the individual meal and season ticket
prices for the upcoming 2006-07 CRS season.
PROGRAM COMMITTEE REPORT:
Dr. Kalbhen gave the report in Dr. Korach’s absence. Because of
a last minute family emergency, Dr. James Provenzale will not be able
to be tonight’s Featured Speaker as planned. Dr. Ruth Ramsey has
graciously agreed on short notice to speak in his place. Dr. Korach is
actively working on the 2006-07 Featured Speaker schedule, and it is
hoped that Dr. Provenzale will be able to reschedule for next season.
ILLINOIS RADIOGICAL SOCIETY REPORT:
The March 2006 combined IRS/CRS/CIRS Educational Symposium was thought
by all to be a success. A total of 131 people registered, but with
33 registrants not attending any portion of the meeting. It was postulated
that this large number of “no shows” may be because the
symposium was free of charge to CRS members. Feedback about the speakers
and facilities was generally very positive. The one frequent complaint
was that the course was held on a Thursday and Friday rather than over
a weekend. The plan is to hold a similar symposium next March, probably
on a Friday and Saturday. Dr. Mintzer has agreed to again be Program
Director, with a possible topic being Emergency Radiology.
OLD BUSINESS:
Offering CME for next season’s Breakout and Featured Speaker Sessions
will be explored over the summer, with Rush likely being pursued as the
sponsor. If CME is successfully offered next season, the possibility
of offering SAMs at some point further in the future will be explored.
NEW BUSINESS:
Dr. Melian announced that MedImmune is generously sponsoring tonight’s
Radiation Oncology Session for $1,500.
It was decided to have a more standard process for the Distinguished
Service Award, with the recipient’s CV, photograph and biographical
sketch made more readily available for promotional purposes.
Having no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:20
PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Carl Kalbhen, MD
Secretary/Treasurer
