April 24, 2003 Executive Committee
Meeting
Present: Dr. Aruna Vade, Dr. Michael Racenstein, Dr.
Edward Melian, Dr. Carl Vyborny, Dr. Kate Feinstein, Dr. Leonard Berlin,
Dr. Carl Kalbhen, Dr. Margaret Stull, Dr. Jay Korach, Dr. John F. Hibbeln,
Dr. Ellen Mendelson, Dr. Gary Dillehay, Dr. Richard A. Mintzer, Dr. Steven
M. Pinsky, Dr. Ruth Ramsey, and Dr. Harold Lasky.
The meeting was called to order at 4:12 pm at The 500 Club at Rush Presbyterian
Medical Center.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
The minutes from the March 20th, 2003 meeting were approved.
PRESIDENT’S REPORT:
Dr. Vade announced that the Distinguished Service Award will be presented
at tonight’s CRS meeting to Dr. Ruth Ramsey for her years of contribution
to the Chicago Radiological Society. Next year’s CRS proposed new
officer slate is as follows: President – Michael Racenstein, MD;
President Elect and Secretary/Treasurer – Edward Melian, MD; Vice
President and Program Chairman – Abraham Dachman, MD; 4th year Trustee
- Carl Kalbhen, MD; and 1st year Trustee Edward Michaels, MD.
PROGRAM COMMITTEE REPORT:
Dr. Racenstein reported that five of the six main speakers for next years
program were arranged. Dr. Dachman will be heading the program committee
for next year.
RESIDENT SECTION REPORT:
The new resident section officers for 2003 – 2004 are; President:
Alexander J. Nemeth, MD; Vice President: Nandita Guha – Thakurta,
MD; Program Chair: Steven M. Zangan, MD; and Secretary: Greg White, MD.
SECRETARY/TREASURER REPORT:
The financial reports of March 1 –March 30, 2003 were reviewed.
Income and expense items were as expected.
CHICAGO MEDICAL SOCIETY REPORT:
Dr. Racenstein noted in Dr. Anderson’s absence that Dr.
Anderson has been made a trustee of the Chicago Medical Society.
ILLINOIS RADIOLOGICAL SOCIETY REPORT:
Major topics at the ACR meeting in Washington DC next month are projected
to be ACR position on radiological assistants and the continued debate
on “standards” vs “guidelines”. The Illinois Executive
Committee meeting will be at 11:15 AM on Sunday.
FELLOWSHIP COMMITTEE REPORT:
Dr. Dillehay reported that the list of fellowship applicants to the college
has grown from two to seven. These applications are due May 1, 2003.
GOLF OUTING REPORT:
The registration form for the golf outing was mailed with the most recent
CRS minutes. It will be held June 12th at the Lincolnshire Marriott Resort.
NEW BUSINESS:
There was some concern about the advertising claims of “Ameriscan”
on the use of MRI for breast cancer screening. A subcommittee headed by
Dr. Mendelson was formed to investigate if the wording of some advertisements
may reflect poorly on radiology.
The Assure Access to Mammography Act bill is being revived in the Senate
by Senators Harkin and Snowe.
The memorial award would be awarded to Dr. Valarie Jackson, to be presented
at the October, 2003, meeting.
Dr. Korach mentioned that a rally against rising costs of malpractice
insurance will be held Tuesday, May 13th, at Daly Plaza in downtown Chicago.
The rally is supported by the Chicago Medical Society, the Illinois State
Medical Society and ISMIE, as well as, numerous local hospitals.
Having no further business the executive meeting adjourned at 5:14 pm.

Dinner was served to 97 people. During dinner, Dr. Vade welcomed the
group in attendance. After dinner, Dr. Vade presented the Distinguished
Service Award to Dr. Ruth Ramsey. Dr. Racenstein then introduced Dr. Grant
who introduced the main speaker, Dr. Pablo Ros. Dr. Ros spoke on “Abdominal
multislice CT: Liver, Pancreas and GI Tract” .
