March 18, 2004 Executive Committee
Meeting
Present: Dr. Michael Racenstein, Dr. Abraham Dachman,
Dr. Alex Nemeth, Dr. Edward Melian, Dr. Kate Feinstein, Dr. Kathleen Ward,
Dr. Aruna Vade, Dr. Gary Dillehay, Dr. Carl Kalbhen, Dr. Margaret Stull,
Dr. Thomas Anderson, Dr. Eric Russell, Dr. John Hibbeln, Dr. Ruth Ramsey,
Dr. Edward Michals.
The meeting was called to order at 4:19 PM at The 500 Club at Rush Presbyterian
Hospital.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
The minutes from the February 18, 2004 meeting were approved with minor
corrections.
PRESIDENT’S REPORT:
Dr. Racenstein reviewed the outstanding turn out for Dr. Vyborny’s
Distinguished Service Medal Presentation last month. He also reported
that Blue Cross/Blue Shield had a new policy which is discussed below
under new business.
NOMINATING COMMITTEE REPORT:
The following slate was approved for next year’s Executive Committee:
Davide Bova for first year trustee, Drs. Ellen Mendelson and Ed Michals
for second year trustees, Drs. Margaret Stull and John Hibbeln for third
year trustees, Dr. Jay Korach for fourth year trustee, Dr. Karl Carl Kalbhen
for Secretary Treasurer, Dr. Abraham Dachman for Program Chairman and
President Elect and Dr. Edward Melian for President.
PROGRAM COMMITTEE REPORT:
Dr. Dachman reviewed tonight’s speakers. The main speaker tonight
will be Dr. Carolyn Meltzer on dedicated PET – CT Imaging. Four
of the six speakers for 2004-2005 have been set.
ILLINOIS RADIOLOGICAL SOCIETY REPORT:
Dr. Ramsey reported the College meeting will again be held in the spring
in Washington D.C. May 8 –13th. The dinner for the new College fellowship
recipients will be on Monday at Kincade’s Restaurant. On Tuesday
night the “ Gala Dinner with live entertainment from the “
Capitol Steps” will be held for all ACR attendees.
GOLF OUTING REPORT:
The golf outing is scheduled for Monday June 21st at Highland Park Country
Club.
MIDWEST CLINICAL CONFERENCE/
CHICAGO MEDICAL SOCIETY:
Dr Anderson reviewed the plan for the Chicago Medical Society conference
on March 25-27th at the Holiday Inn at the Merchandise Mart, 350 N. Orleans
St. The radiology speakers will be on March 26th. The planned informational
session to address the malpractice crisis in Illinois on Friday the 26th
at 11 AM.
RESIDENT SECTION REPORT:
The resident section has two sponsors tonight: National Display
Systems and W L Gore.
SECRETARY/TREASURER REPORT:
The financial reports of February 2004 were reviewed and met with approval
from the group. The Society’s assets are approximately stable.
NEW BUSINESS:
Dr. Racenstein reviewed the Blue Cross Blue Shield policy to stop paying
for Digital mammography as of May 1st, 2004. This is a decision that affects
the states of Michigan, Texas, Illinois, and New Mexico. This decision
as already been fought with some success in Michigan. Dr. Racenstein will
be organizing a response to the Blue Cross/Blue Shield decision.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:19 PM.

Prior to dinner Dr. Melian substituting for Dr. Racenstein thanked the
Society for to attend the meeting. Dinner was served to 60 people. After
dinner Dr. Dachman introduced Dr. Carolyn Meltzer who then gave the evening’s
educational lecture on the advantages of dedicated CT – PET Imaging.
