Meeting MinutesFeb. 15, 2007 Executive Committee MeetingPRESENT: Dr. Carl Kalbhen, Dr. John Hibbeln, Dr. Jay Korach, Dr. Aruna Vade, Dr. Kathleen Ward, Dr. Davide Bova, Dr. Kate Feinstein, Dr. Abraham Dachman, Dr. Ed Micheals, Dr. Jennifer Lim-Dunham, Dr, Joy Sclamberg, Dr. Mustafa Bashir, Dr. Gretchen Conroy, Dr. William Small, Dr. Ellen Mendelson. The meeting was called to order at 4:25 PM at The 500 Club of Rush University Medical Center. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes from the January 2007 meeting were approved. RESIDENT AND FELLOW SECTION REPORT: Dr. Bashir stated that an announcement for this year’s earlier elections was made at the prior Residents’ Section Meeting. The elections for the coming year’s resident section officers will be held today and the results will be announced before the featured speaker presentation this evening. Dr. Bashir stated that the last Oral Boards Review Session was well attended and that shortening the time by having the Featured Speaker start somewhat earlier was helpful. PRESIDENT’S REPORT: Discussion of the previously issued charges by the Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan concerning pay-back arrangements between referring physicians and corporations holding free standing imaging center, was held. Note was made of a positive response to Dr. Kalbhen’s and Dr. Berlin’s letters to the Chicago Tribune concerning this issue. Co-incidentally, Dr. Kalbhen reports that US Congressman Mark Kirk will shortly be visiting Dr. Kalbhen’s home institution, Northwest Community Hospital. This is will allow an opportunity to discuss this and other issues of concern for the radiology community. SECRETARY/TREASURER’S REPORT: Dr. Hibbeln gave the Financial report for January 2007. Receipts for dinners are lagging, but payments are expected this next period. Preparations are to be made for an audit of the finances. The medal for the Distinguished Service Award has been ordered. PROGRAM COMMITTEE REPORT: Due to inclement weather, the featured speaker for the evening, Dr. Naidich, was forced to cancel. Very graciously, and on a short notice, Dr. Martin Lazarus from Evanston-Northwestern Hospital accepted a request that he present the lecture. He will speak on “MRI of Sports Injuries.” As Dr. Naidich was to receive the Grubbe Memorial Award, the award will not be given this year. It was noted that new additional certificates are needed. NOMATING COMMITTEE REPORT: The committee noted a need to look for new trustees and a program director for the coming year and solicited nominations. A new slate is expected to be offered at the March meeting. FELLOWSHIP COMMITTEE REPORT: One candidate has submitted an application for Fellowship status. ILLINOIS RADIOGICAL SOCIETY REPORT: Plans for the up coming Illinois State Radiological Society Meeting and Conference were described. Registration is now on-going. The meeting will be held at the Feinberg Auditorium at the Northwestern Memorial Hospital Campus March 16th and 17th. All were urged to attend. Discussion of the next ACR national meeting was held. There was no notification of the main topics of discussion for the meeting. It is anticipated that questions concerning medical costs and universal health care will be raised. As fraud and self-referrals also raise the cost of the cost of health care, it is hoped that these issues will not be set-aside. NEW BUSINESS: Dr. Mendelson announced that the American College of Surgeons have established a committee for the accredition of “Breast Centers.” Part of the accreditation would include the certification of surgeons in the performance of breast ultrasound and the performance of imaging guided breast biopsies. Having no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:20 PM. Respectfully submitted, John Hibbeln, MD Back to main Minutes pageBack to topWelcome
