February 18, 2004 Executive Committee Meeting

Present: Dr. Michael Racenstein, Dr. Abraham Dachman, Dr. Edward Melian, Dr. Alex Nemeth, Dr. Kate Feinstein, Dr. Kathleen Ward, Dr. Aruna Vade, Dr. Carl Kalbhen, Dr. Margaret Stull, Dr. Eric Russell, Dr. John Hibbeln, Dr. Ruth Ramsey, Dr. Edward Michaels, Dr. Thomas Anderson.

The meeting was called to order at 4:14pm at The 500 Club at Rush Presbyterian Hospital.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
The minutes from the January 15, 2004 meeting were approved.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT:
Dr. Racenstein reported that the Distinguished Service Medal would be presented tonight to Dr. Carl Vibrancy in honor of his years of service and dedication to preserving the history of the Chicago Radiological Society.

NOMINATING COMMITTEE REPORT:
The nominating committee has identified the following slate for next years new officers: Divide Boa for first year trustee, Drs. Ellen Mendel son and Ed Michaels for second year trustees, Drs. Margaret Stull and John Hibbeln for third year trustees, Dr. Jay Karachi for fourth year trustee, Dr. Karl Carl Kalbhen for Secretary Treasurer, Dr. Abraham Bachman for Program Chairman and President Elect and Dr. Edward Malian for President. The slate was approved in its entirety.

PROGRAM COMMITTEE REPORT:
Dr. Bachman reviewed tonight’s speakers. The main speaker tonight will be Dr. Eric Russell substituting for Dr. Wendy Smoker. Dr. Russell will speak on Intracranial Vascular Abnormalities in keeping with the spirit of Dr. Smoker’s topic. Feedback information from the breakout sessions has identified a request for more mammography topics. After discussion it was proposed to add an additional session on mammography, which would be held during the October 2004 meeting in the same room as the Executive Committee meeting.

ILLINOIS RADIOLOGICAL SOCIETY REPORT:
Dr. Ramsey reported the College meeting will again be held in the spring in Washington D.C. May 8 –13th. There will be a dinner held for the new College fellowship recipients on Monday. Dr. Choo of RUSH radiation oncology has been identified as the radiation oncology resident representative.

GOLF OUTING REPORT:
The golf outing is scheduled to go forward under the guidance of Dr. Karna again. Highland Park Country Club has been named the site for the outing and the date will be Monday June 21st.

MIDWEST CLINICAL CONFERENCE/
CHICAGO MEDICAL SOCIETY:
Chicago Medical Society conference will be on March 25-27th at the Holiday Inn at the Merchandise Mart, 350 N. Orleans St. The radiology speakers will be on March 26th. Dr. Anderson noted that attendance was uncertain, as there is a competing industry sponsored meeting. There is planned informational session to address the malpractice crisis in Illinois on Friday the 26th.

RESIDENT SECTION REPORT:
The resident section speaker will be Dr. Bachman discussing the techniques and role of virtual colonoscopy.

SECRETARY/TREASURER REPORT:
The financial reports of January 2004 were reviewed and met with approval from the group. The Society’s assets continue to be slightly ahead of last years.

NEW BUSINESS:
There was a presentation by Barbara A. Burnham R.T. of the Illinois State Society of Radiological Technologists Board of Directors regarding the State of Illinois recent changes in their management of technologists credentialing and supervision of nuclear safety. This included, but was not limited to the restructing of Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety as a division of the Illinois Emergency Management Agency. A discussion

The meeting was adjourned at 5:22 pm.

Prior to dinner Dr. Racenstein thanked the Society for to attend the meeting. Dinner was served to 121 people. Following dinner Dr. Heber MacMahon gave a review of some of the highlights of the career of Dr. Carl Vyborny. Dr. Vyborny was then presented the Distinguished Service Medal Award by Dr. Racenstein. Dr. Eric J. Russell then gave the evening’s educational lecture on Intracranial Vascular Abnormalities.
