February 20, 2003 Executive
Committee Meeting
Present: Dr. Aruna Vade, Dr. Michael Racenstein, Dr.
Edward Melian, Dr. Kate Feinstein, Dr. Thomas Grant, Dr. Leonard Berlin,
Dr. Karl Kalbhen, Dr. Jay Korach, Dr. Margaret Stull, Dr. Gary Dillehay,
Dr. Ruth Ramsey, Dr. Taylor Stroud
The meeting was called to order at 4:10 pm at The 500 Club at Rush Presbyterian
Hospital.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
The minutes from the January 16, 2003 meeting were approved.
PRESIDENT’S REPORT:
Dr. Vade reviewed the criteria for the Distinguished Award Committee.
The committee consists of the three immediate past presidents led by the
most senior member of the group. Dr. Grant will be contacted to chair
the committee. The Distinguished Award will be presented at the April
CRS meeting. The past president chairs the Nominating Committee and Dr.
Vyborny will be contacted to form the committee and nominate two trustees
and a program chairman for the next academic year.
PROGRAM COMMITTEE REPORT:
Dr. Racenstein said that five out of the six meetings for next year’s
main speakers are already arranged. Speakers will be Dr. Richard Baron,
Dr. Carolyn Meltzer, Dr. Valerie Jackson, Dr. B.J. Manaster and Dr. Wendy
Smoker. The Midwest Clinical Conference will be held the afternoon of
March 21, 2003 at Navy Pier from 1:45-5:45pm. Presentations will be given
on screening CT of the chest, virtual colonoscopy, digital mammography
and PET scanning.
RESIDENT SECTION REPORT:
Dr. Stroud mentioned the sponsor for that evening’s resident’s
section is Amersham Health. It was noted that the resident’s section
has done an excellent job of obtaining sponsorship. The resident physicians
section elections will be held next month.
SECRETARY/TREASURER REPORT:
The financial reports of January 1 – January 31, 2003 were reviewed.
Income and expense items were as expected.
ILLINOIS RADIOLOGICAL SOCIETY REPORT:
Dr. Ramsey discussed possible topics for the Illinois Radiological Society
fall meeting. It was noted that there is a conflict of dates with another
meeting for interventional radiologists. It was noted that the people
attending the two meetings may not overlap tremendously and current decision
was to continue with plans for the meeting. Dr. Ruth Ramsey has submitted
a resolution to the ACR regarding the need to develop a radiologist’s
assistant program.
FELLOWSHIP COMMITTEE REPORT:
Dr. Dillehay reported that he may have two completed applications to submit
to the college. These applications are due May 1, 2003.
GOLF OUTING REPORT:
Dr. Kalbhen reported that Dr. Anoop Karna has scheduled the golf outing
for June 12 at the Marriott Lincolnshire.
NEW BUSINESS:
We will be having a technician stay overtime for the first hour of the
CRS meeting in case of problems with the LCD projectors.
Having no further business the executive meeting adjourned at 5:23pm.

Dinner was served to 76 people. During dinner Dr. Vade welcomed the group
in attendance. Amersham and Schering Oncology were recognized as the sponsors
of the resident and radiation oncology sections respectively. Following
dinner. Dr. Stuart Sagel of the Mallinkrodt Institute Washington University
was introduced by Dr. Eric Hart; Dr. Sagel gave a through presentation
on the use of CT angiography for the detection of pulmonary embolism.
