Meeting MinutesFebruary 15, 2001 Executive Committee MeetingPresent: Berlin, Dachman, Dillehay, Feinstein, Kalbhen, Melian, Pritchard, Racenstein, Ramsey, Smoron, Vijayakumar, Vyborny, Ward The meeting was called to order by Dr. Ward at 4:10 p.m. in the Council Room of the Standard Club. Secretary/Treasurer ReportThe minutes of the January 18, 2001 meeting were approved as submitted. The financial reports of January 1-January 31, 2001 were reviewed. Income and expense items were as expected. Resident Section ReportThere were 37 attendees at the January Resident Physician Section. For this afternoon's session, Dr. Cynthia Rigsby has graciously volunteered to substitute for an unexpected speaker vacancy and will give a presentation on pediatric trauma. Program Committee ReportThe dates for the 2001-2002 CRS meetings will be as follows:
Dr. Harvey Neiman will be the season's first speaker and will discuss the state of the profession in October. Other scheduled speakers will include Dr. Mary Jensen, who will discuss vertebroplasty in November, and Dr. Etta Pisano, who will discuss digital mammography in March. The radiology section of the CMS 2001 Midwest Clinical Conference will take place on Sunday, February 25, 2001. The topic is "Interventional Radiology." Vendor Support Ad Hoc CommitteeTalks regarding vendor support for future CRS meetings are ongoing. Nominating Committee ReportThe Nominating Committee reported the slate for the 2001-2002 CRS Executive Committee: Dr. Michael Racenstein for Program Chairman/Vice President and Drs. Jay Korach and Margaret Stull for Trustees. Elections will be held at the April meeting. Standard Club Contract ReviewThe Executive Committee voted to remain at the Standard Club next year. A subcommittee will be formed to explore other options for 2002-2003. Illinois Radiological Society ReportThe management change from ACR to RSNA has proceeded without difficulty so far. Fellowship Committee ReportApplications for ACR fellowship will be accepted until July 1, 2001. Please contact Dr. Smoron for further details. RSNA ReportMr. Dave Fellers is the new Executive Director of the RSNA. Medicare Fee Advisory ReportThe 2001 fee changes primarily affect interventional radiology procedures. Old BusinessUnderwriting for the purchase of an LCD projector is still being investigated. The IRS may provide some assistance. The possibility of a CRS-sponsored CME meeting was raised. The many inherent difficulties with this type of endeavor were discussed, and the topic was deferred Letters of appreciation were mailed to the Illinois Congressmen (Blagojevich, Davis, Gutierrez, LaHood, Lipinski, Rush, Schakowsky) who sponsored the formation of a National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering. Causes and possible remedies for the traditionally low turnout for the February CRS meeting were discussed. No specific changes were recommended at this time. New BusinessThe CMS and ISMS are looking for physicians willing to serve on committees. Having no further business, the Executive Committee adjourned at 4:52 p.m.. Respectfully submitted, Carl Kalbhen, M.D. Dinner was served to 50 people. While dessert was being served, Dr. Ward conducted a brief business meeting. She then introduced Diane Hayek, Manager of the ACR Department of Economics and Health Policy, who gave the lecture "Coding Issues in Diagnostic Radiology."
