January 15, 2004 Executive
Committee Meeting
Present: Dr. Michael Racenstein, Dr. Edward Melian,
Dr. Abraham Dachman, Dr. Alex Nemeth, Dr. Kate Feinstein, Dr. Kathleen
Ward, Dr. Carl Kalbhen, Dr. Margaret Stull, Dr. Ellen Mendelson, Dr. Leonard
Berlin, Dr. Jay Korach, Dr. John Hibbeln, Dr. Ruth Ramsey, Dr. Edward
Michaels.
The meeting was called to order at 4:12pm at The 500 Club at Rush Presbyterian
Hospital.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
The minutes from the November 13,, 2003 meeting were approved.
PRESIDENT’S REPORT:
Dr. Racenstein reported that the Distinguished Service Medal would be
presented at the February meeting. The recipient, as determined by the
Distinguished Service Committee, will be Dr. Carl Vyborny in honor of
his years of service and dedication to preserving the history of the Chicago
Radiological Society. Due to the short notice a rapid turn around for
delivery of the medal will be requested.
PROGRAM COMMITTEE REPORT:
Dr. Dachman reviewed tonight’s speakers. The main speaker tonite
will be Dr. David S. Channin, MD, Chief of Imaging Informatics from Northwestern
Memorial Hospital. A spirited discussion of possible future speakers was
held.
ILLINOIS RADIOLOGICAL SOCIETY REPORT:
Dr. Ramsey reported the College meeting will again be held in the spring
in Washington D.C. May 8 –13 th. There will be a dinner held for
the new College fellowship recipients on Monday. The Illinois Society
will be sponsoring 3 residents for the meeting a diagnostic resident from
each of the Chicago and Central Illinois sections and a radiation oncology
resident.
GOLF OUTING REPORT:
The golf outing is scheduled to go forward under the guidance of Dr. Karna
again. Dr. Kalbhen is going to contact him to get further details. Preliminary
site is Highland Park Country Club.
MIDWEST CLINICAL CONFERENCE:
Chicago Medical Society is going to run a specialty conference for which
Dr. Dachman has pulled together a small group of diagnostic radiology
speakers. The conference will be on March 25-27th at the Holiday Inn at
the Merchandise Mart, 350 N. Orleans St. The radiology speakers will be
on March 26th. He is submitting the speakers handouts for CME accreditation.
RESIDENT SECTION REPORT:
The resident section has procured a sponsor for the next two sessions
at the standard rate, National Display Systems. Their sponsorship will
be recognized during dinner.
SECRETARY/TREASURER REPORT:
The financial reports of November-December 2003 were reviewed and met
with approval from the group. The Society’s assets continue to be
slightly ahead of last years.
NEW BUSINESS:
There was no further new business.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:22 pm.

Prior to dinner Dr. Racenstein thanked the audience for braving the Chicago
weather to attend the meeting. Following dinner Dr. Eric J Russell introduced
Dr. David S. Channin who spoke on the challenges and rewards of instituting
an institutional wide PACS system. All in attendance noted his mastery
of computer presentation skills.
