Meeting Minutes
Nov. 16, 2005 Executive Committee
Meeting
Present: Drs. Abraham Dachman, Carl Kalbhen, Jay Korach,
Steven Zangan, Rodney Corby, John Hibbeln, Margaret Stull, Ellen Mendelson,
Edward Michals, Gary Dillehay, Kate Feinstein, Ruth Ramsey and William
Small.
The meeting was called to order at 4:20 PM at The 500 Club of Rush University
Medical Center.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
The minutes from the October 20, 2005 meeting were approved.
PRESIDENT’S REPORT:
Dr. Dachman reminded the Executive Committee about the opportunities to
participate with the RSNA in a Career Day Program for Chicago Public High
School students on the Thursday of RSNA week as well as a “shadow
program” where a high school student could come observe a radiologist
at work for a day. He also stated that the final rules for the CMS fee
schedule to be effective on January 1, 2006 will result in decreased reimbursement
for radiological procedures.
RESIDENT SECTION REPORT:
Dr. Zangan stated that tonight’s Resident Section speaker will be
Dr. David Casalino of Northwestern University who will speak on “CT
Urography and Interesting GU Pathology.” Dr. Casalino’s session
has been generously sponsored by Boston Scientific. A weblink for abstract
submissions for the 2006 Steven M. Pinsky Resident Research Award to be
given at the upcoming IRS Symposium is now available on the Illinois Radiological
Society website (www.illradsoc.org).
SECRETARY/TREASURER’S REPORT:
Dr. Kalbhen had spoken to the accountant who performed the CRS audit from
7/01/02 to 6/30/04 and reported back on the reasons for the apparent inconsistencies
between the two audit years. For business transactions which took place
during the summer months (eg, the CRS Golf Outing), some became part of
the 7/02-6/03 fiscal year and others the 7/03-6/04 fiscal year depending
on exactly when funds were deposited or withdrawn. The Financial Report
for October 2005 was given; revenue and expense items were as expected,
with the Society’s finances remaining strong.
PROGRAM COMMITTEE REPORT:
Dr. Korach gave the list of Breakout Session speakers for tonight’s
meeting. Dr. Margaret Stull will be speaking at the Musculoskeletal Section,
Dr. Gary Dillehay at the Nuclear Medicine Section, Dr. Matthew Walker
at the Neuroradiology Section and Dr. Jeffrey Bradley at the Radiation
Oncology Session. Dr. Bradley’s session and travel expenses have
been generously sponsored by MedImmune. Because of an early flight departure
time from O’Hare, tonight’s Featured Speaker, Dr. Emanuel
Kanal, will speak during the dinner rather than following it. Dr. Kanal’s
lecture and travel expenses have been generously sponsored by Bracco.
The program for the combined IRS/CRS/CIRS Educational Symposium on Thursday
and Friday, March 16 and 17, 2006 is finalized, with official announcements
and registration forms to be mailed out soon. The Executive Committee
decided in favor of having a similar combined symposium in March, 2007.
A suggested topic for this 2007 symposium was “Emergency Radiology”.
Dr. Anne Osborn is unable to be the Featured Speaker for the April, 2006
CRS meeting as originally scheduled. Dr. Korach is actively working on
finding a replacement.
ILLINOIS RADIOLOGICAL SOCIETY REPORT:
Dr. Dachman reminded the CRS Executive Committee that the IRS Executive
Committee will be meeting on the Sunday of RSNA week from 4:30PM to 7:30PM
at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place.
NEW BUSINESS:
The November meeting is the first in which a web-based meal reservation
system was utilized. It was used almost exclusively by individual attendees,
with the larger institutions mostly still faxing their meal requests.
Increased use of the web-based system will be encouraged.
The Society’s By-Laws, last updated in 1984 and until now not in
digital format, were digitally scanned by Dr. Kalbhen for placement on
the CRS website and distribution to the Executive Committee. Suggested
changes and revisions were discussed and voted upon by the Executive Committee.
Additionally, in accordance with the By-Laws, several Committee Chairs
were chosen: Dr. Feinstein for Legislative, Dr. Ramsey for Public Information,
Dr. Kalbhen for By-Laws, Dr. Small for Radiation Oncology and Dr. Korach
for Radiation Safety. Copies of the proposed By-Laws changes will be mailed
to the CRS membership with the January meeting announcement, with these
changes then being voted upon by the Society at large at the January meeting
Having no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:25 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Carl Kalbhen, MD
Secretary/Treasurer
Dinner was served to 67 people. Dr. Dachman introduced Dr. Kanal who
gave a talk entitled “MRI Safety”. Following Dr. Kanal’s
lecture and dinner, a short business meeting was held.
