Meeting Minutes

Oct. 17, 2007 Executive Committee Meeting

PRESENT: Dr. Jay Korach, Dr. Ed Mellian, Dr. John Hibbeln, Dr. Ed Micheals, Dr. Abraham Dachman, Dr. Kate Feinstein, Dr. Carl Kalbhen, Dr. Alex Nemeth, Dr. Aruna Vade, Dr. Joy Sclamberg, with visitor Dr. Nasir Iqbal from Loyola University.

The meeting was called to order at 4:40 PM at The 500 Club of Rush University Medical Center.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes from the April 2007 meeting were approved.

RESIDENT AND FELLOW SECTION REPORT: This month’s Residents’ Session lecture shall be “How to Survive Contact Negotiations.” The presenter will be a member of the ACR staff. Additionally, Dr. Hibbeln has agreed to give the Resident Oral Board Review Session with the topic “Ultrasound Case Review.” A sponsor for the November Resident Section has been found and Covidien has offered to cover the expenses. The Resident Section reiterates that they have found that the prizes for the Oral Review Session stimulate interest and they request that it be continued again this year.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT: Dr. Korach opened the meeting and requested an update about the CME process.

SECRETARY/TREASURER’S REPORT: Dr. Hibbeln gave the Financial report the year end of 2006-2007 and reviewed the financial statement of October 2007. The current balance at the beginning of this year is within $200.00 of the beginning of the 2006 season. Costs for the CME certification are still outstanding. The CME program has been re-certified by Rush for this coming year. With summer staffing issues, processing of the certificates was delayed, but Rush is to present these certificates this coming week. It was remarked by Dr. Hibbeln that if these were presented at the meeting, then it would spare mailing costs. 77 attendees have pre-registered for this meeting. All the residency coordinators from academic departments are being reminded by phone call immediately prior to the meeting in order to help maintain resident attendance.

PROGRAM COMMITTEE REPORT: A review of the speakers scheduled for this year was given. Although there are speakers for the break-out and resident sessions, it was suggested to try to expand the roster of those invited to help encourage involvement by a broader base of physician in the society. Due to the success of the Resident Oral Board Review, the possibility of an additional program, such as city-wide “Mock Oral Boards” was entertained.

FELLOWSHIP COMMITTEE REPORT: This year ten candidates applied for ACR Fellowship and eight were accepted. This was an outstanding number for the state.

DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD COMMITTEE REPORT: A potential candidate for this year’s award was discussed.

ILLINOIS RADIOGICAL SOCIETY REPORT: The IRS will hold a meeting at the RSNA on November 25th. For this coming year, Dr. Berlin has volunteered to be the program director for the March Combined IRS/CRS meeting.

NEW BUSINESS: Dr. Dachman announced that there have been several recent articles published evaluating CT colonography for screening for colon cancer and colonic polyps. Based on these and other studies, it is likely that CMS will shortly reimburse for this study.

Having no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:40 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

John Hibbeln, MD
Secretary/Treasurer
